Obituary of Judith A. Newcomb
Judith A. Newcomb, 82, of Altamont, New York passed away at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's on March 9, 2018. Born on June 14, 1935, in Albany, New York to the late Mildred (nee Laraway) and Clarence Barber, she grew up on her family's dairy farm in Middleburgh, New York. Judy was predeceased by her husband of over fifty years, Lyle A. Newcomb (2009), whom she began dating while attending Cornell University. Judy and Lyle enjoyed travel and other social activities, including skiing and camping, and were long-time congregants of St. John's Lutheran Church in Altamont.
Judy was a homemaker and worked for many years as a dental assistant for both Dr. Dan Burns and Dr. Stan Lis in Guilderland. She was a volunteer with Community Caregivers and the Altamont Free Library, as well as a member of Altamont's Train Station Quilters. In addition to her parents and her husband, she is predeceased by her half-sister, Frances Hubbard. She is survived by her children, Carla S. Stefan (Douglas) of Voorheesville, Lori J. Walrath (Stephen) of Altamont, and Lyle "Tom" Newcomb (Rachelle) of Davis, California, as well as six grandchildren, Lesley and Robert Stefan, Lydia and James Walrath, and Juliana and Lyla Newcomb. She is also survived by her sister in law Fay Haynes of Oneonta.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018, from 10am-11am at St. John's Lutheran Church, 140 Maple Avenue, Altamont, with funeral services to follow at 11am. A private interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Community Caregivers at 2021 Western Ave, Albany, NY, 12203, or the Altamont Free Library at 179 Main Street, Altamont, NY 12009.
