With deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Mr. Richard
May the Hearer of Prayer (Psalm 83:18) give you strength, courage, and peace in your time of sorrow (Psalm 65:2). And may you always cherish the wonderful and precious memories of time spent with your dear loved one. Your loved one is not only in your memory but will forever be in God’s memory. Please remember God promises us a time we will see our dead loved ones again. (Revelation 21:4)

Carol, Amanda and I dined with you and Richard one evening after helping Pastor Jeri pack up for her move. I will never forget the love and kindness you both showed us that evening. The world was blessed to have Richard here and I know you will deeply miss him. I am so sorry for your loss. May God's peace be with you in this difficult time.

Although, I haven’t seen Richie since the late ‘50s early ‘60s, when I too was almost a son of the Guilz family in Valley Stream, NY. Richie’s parents Rollie & Kate were very similar to what I have read in the obituary about Richie & Carol – having always opened their home to all their children’s friends.
As a high schooler, my best friend was Richie’s oldest brother Rollie. I so much admired the Guilz home and Guilz parents. I’m certain I spent more time at the Guilz Valley Stream home than I spent at my own home – just a few blocks away. The Guilz parents were so inspirational to me.
Having spent so much time in the Guilz home, I knew all the Guilz children so very well. As such, Richie was almost a little brother to me too. It’s incredible, now after almost 60 years, how I instantly recognized Richie’s obituary photo, after not having seen him in so many years – that same happy boy Irish smile. And then, learning now how Richie’s and my life seemed to have paralleled each other’s throughout the years ever since; programming, systems operations, volunteer firemen, sports and especially that of being so involved in the caring and love of family and friends.
That last similiarity, such a beautiful Guilz trait, one that was always so evident in the Guilz Valley Stream home, and has since been carrying on through so many other homes ever since.
My love and condolences to all the Guilz,
David Zang

Carol, Richard and Lynn
So sorry to read this news. I met Richard quite a few decades ago and enjoyed working with him and being to your homes. He was always so upbeat and it is something passed on to Richard and Lynn, I can only hope to have done as well with my children. Know that I will be there in spirit as i am out of town but know I will offer a prayer.and thanks for knowing him.

Our dearest cousins, you are more like a brothers and sisters to us and we will shall forever miss Rich greatly. He was always so full of life and so youthful. It is hard to imagine he is gone as he seemed he was ageless. Our hearts ache and Carol, Rich, Rich, and Lynnie - you mean the world to us. All the family get togethers, antique shopping, hanging out and laughing brought us closer as family and friends. We love you dearly and will always keep you in our prayers. The Lord promises us no more suffering and pain. As raw as this is, we can find joy in knowing that Jesus has Rich in his loving arms and is carrying all of you through this difficult time. May the Lord bless you with comfort and peace. May His love sustain you and hold you close.
Love you so much - Lori and Will Schuessler

It still doesn't seem real that Rich is no longer with us. That his smiling face won't be waiting for us at a fire call, drill, meeting, or special event at EBFD. His presence will be missed more than anyone could possibly know. He was the epitome of what it meant to be an amazing fire fighter. Compassionate, caring, strong, dedicated, loving. He is everything we all strive to be. We were so blessed to have had the opportunity to fight right along side of him many times, it was a true honor.
We want to offer our sincere condolences, thoughts, and prayers to his whole beautiful family. We love you and are here for whatever you may need.

My dear special friend Richard...this is hard to accept, and I hope it would be OK if I came back here now and then again, because it is so fresh. I didn't get the opportunity to say this to you before you left so I will say it now....Goodbye to you, my dear Brother in Christ, I love you very very much. But, I know that I will see you again, that this goodbye right now is not forerver, and the time will come when we can celebrate at the table of our Lord again. And that you will be reunited with your beloved Carol, and with Rich, and with Lynn, and with Peter and Jacob. I'm having my first cataract surgery tomorrow, and so can't have a good bawl yet....can't put stress and pressure strain my eyeball yet -- I love you, dear Richard, and will talk to you and think of you. And to Carol and Rich and Lynn, and Peter and Jacob...and to our Richard's sisters and brothers, my heart goes out not to all of you, because I know what a huge hole he leaves in your lives. Dear Carol, but that doesn't mean that you are fid of my, Sister!! I will be staying in touch with you. I am holding all of you in prayer right now, I know that your hearts are broken, but as our Brother St. Paul tells us, nothing nothing nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus....and that means not even death. We are in the season of Lent...and remember how the death of Good Friday is overcome by the new life given to all of us on that Sunday. My love to you all who read this.
