Obituary of Bessie L. Friebel

Altamont- Bessie L. "Betty" Friebel, 88, died on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at The Grand of Guilderland. She was born in Schenectady, NY on August 16, 1929 to the late Lester S. and Bessie M (nee Ohlidal) Wilson. She married her beloved husband Ernest Friebel on November 8, 1947. Ernest passed in 2013. Betty had many hobbies that included camping, crafts, gardening and playing the organ. She was a member of the National Campers & Hikers Association, the Good Sam RV Club, the VFW, the Historical Societies of Guilderland and Duanesburg and the Elks Ladies Auxiliary. Betty had a very strong religious faith and had been a long-time member of the congregation of the Messiah Lutheran Church. She served on various church committees and was a friend to all. Betty enjoyed being with people. She was an extremely genuine and gregarious soul who always tried to make people comfortable. She could talk to anyone making them feel like her best friend. People often said she was one of the nicest people they knew. She will be sorely missed. She is survived by her children Walter E. (Sandra) Friebel, William A. (Deborah) Friebel, Elisabeth M. (Charles) Whitman and Steve (Adrian) Friebel; her grandchildren Vicki Hubert, Katrina, Daniel and Corey Friebel, Matthew (Carla) and Brian Friebel, Christopher (Cassandra) and Marc Whitman, Dylan Friebel; six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 from 4-8PM at Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, Altamont. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at 1:30PM at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2850 Guilderland Ave., Schenectady.
