Obituary of Joseph P. Spadaro

Joseph P. Spadaro, 96, of Saratoga Springs, NY died August 24, 2016 at home with his family by his side. He was born September 21, 1919 in Knox, NY to Mary and Cyrus Spadaro. After graduating from Altamont High School in 1939 he served in the army for 4 years in the pacific during WW2.In 1946 he married Cora Dexter and they had 2 sons, Robert and Ronald. Cora died in 1982. After the military he worked as an electrician at the Army Depot in Guilderland Center and the Watervliet Arsenol, retiring in 1974. He also worked at the Altamont Fair for many years. In 1986 he married Betty Schiltz in Las Vegas, NV. For 22 years they spent winters in Henderson, NV and summers in Saratoga, NY, driving back and forth. He was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed the slots, especially Keno. While living in Nevada, Joe and Betty also enjoyed gold mining, going to new Casino openings and implosions of the old Casinos. Joe and Betty moved back to Saratoga in 2013 after Joe suffered a stroke. Since then he has been in declining health. Joe is survived by his wife Betty, beloved cat Bingo, stepchildren Donna Schadow, Steve, Chuck, Jim (Suzanne) and Doug Schiltz, step grandchilden Jessica (Brian) Altman, Kristen (Carl) Hatt, Steve, Andrew and Devon Schiltz, and step great-grandson Levi Altman. Also survived by nieces Susie (David) Arnold, Terri McCoy (Peter Audet), great nieces Emilie Arnold, Bethany (Kurt) Threlfall, Coventry & great grand niece Lily, sister-in-law Betty Spadaro, cousins Anthony Spadaro, Frank (Susan) Spadaro, Patricia Spadaro and Linda (Charles) Miller. He was predeceased by his first wife Cora, sons Robert and Ronald, stepson Joseph Schiltz, Sisters Rose (Marshall)Vinehout and Helen (William) McCoy, brother Patrick, nephew Richard Spadaro and cousin Mark Spadaro. There will be a military graveside service at Fairview Cemetery in Altamont, NY on August 27 at 11:00am followed by memory sharing at the home of Donna Schadow in Burnt Hills. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101in Joe's memory. This was one of his favorite charities.
