Obituary of Jacob Van Zetten
VAN ZETTEN, JACOB. Middletown, CT (formerly of New Scotland, NY). Jacob Van Zetten passed away on August 1, 2016, in Middletown, CT. Born in Eck En Wiel, The Netherlands on April 23, 1927 to the late Johannes and Cornelia Vissers Van Zetten. The Van Zetten family moved to the United States when Jake was two years old.
As a young man, he was a member of the Future Farmers of America and the Albany County Farm Bureau. He is the last surviving charter member of the New Salem Fire Department.
Jacob married Millicent E. Weiss on October 29, 1956. They, along with his brother Peter, owned and operated Van Land Farms, a dairy farm until 1970. Jake used his farming expertise at Agway and enjoyed a long career as a farm consultant-salesman.
A long-standing member of the New Scotland Presbyterian Church, he served as Trustee and Stewardship Chairman. Jake and Millie later joined the Helderberg Dutch Reformed Church and enjoyed many years of fellowship until their relocation to the Village at South Farms, an assisted living community in Middletown, CT.
Jacob is pre-deceased by his wife, Millicent and brother Peter. He is survived by his son John (Karen) Van Zetten of Colchester, CT and his daughter Jo Anne (John) Jacob of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, Grandson's Joshua Van Zetten of Colchester, CT and Jameson Van Zetten of Columbia, SC.
Calling hours will be at D'Angelos Funeral Home, 22 South Main St. Middletown, CT on Thursday, August 4, 2016 from 5-7PM. A brief viewing will be held at St John's Chapel, 303 Sand Creek Rd. Albany NY on Saturday 8/6 beginning at 3PM, with a service to follow at 3:30PM. Interment at St John's Lutheran Cemetery, 303 Sand Creek Rd, Albany, NY immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Middlesex Hospital Hospice and Pallative Care, Middlesex Hospital, Office of Philanthropy, 28 Crescent Street, Middletown, CT 06457.
