Obituary of Elizabeth A. Mahoney

ALTAMONT- Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Mahoney, 88, passed away on Monday June 21, 2021 after a brief illness. She was born in Altamont, NY on May 14, 1933 to the late John and Sadie (Sidoti) Orsini.

She graduated from the Altamont High School in 1951. After graduation from high school she worked for GE in Schenectady until she married Bill Mahoney on May 27, 1956. Her job at GE was to write to the Navy Department in Washington, DC to obtain the next port for a Navy ship that required parts so GE could ship those parts out. In the late 1960’s she was appointed as a Special Deputy for the Albany County Sheriff’s Department.

Betty was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed traveling to Legion conferences with her husband. She loved summer family picnics in Rensselear. She enjoyed bowling.

She is survived by her son, John and his wife Wendy and granddaughter Kaitlyn.

She was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Mahoney; her sister Mary (John) Boucher; and granddaughter Ashley Mahoney.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021 form 10am – 12pm at Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main St., Altamont with a funeral service to follow at 12pm. Interment at Fairview Cemetery, Altamont.
