Obituary of John Prastio

Cpl. John James Prastio Sr., 2nd Battalion 3rd Marines, retired, 76, died peacefully at home in April 11, 2021. A Vietnam Veteran, served in three tours and received 3 Purple Hearts.  His individual strength was immeasurable.  At 20, he was told he would never walk again due to battle wounds but with his determination and perseverance he walked.  He didn’t stop there. Despite his constant pain, he never complained, woke up everyday and did whatever it took to take care of his family.  Throughout all of his health battles he was a warrior and never gave up.  He said, “As long as I feel the pain, I know I’m alive.”

John was a stature of a father.  He instilled his strength, determination, and wisdom into each of his children.  He always put family first.

John is survived by his children James (Amy), John (Erin), Jennifer (Hossam), Joseph (Mikayla), Stephanie (Shane); 11 grandchildren: James, Destiny, Michael, Anthony, Giana, Lila, Bella, Yusef, Rocco, Gabriel, Adalyn; sister Felicia Marino; several nieces and one nephew.  He was predeceased by his daughter Nicole, sister Marie, and brother Joseph.

John will be remembered by all for his monumental strength, utmost loyalty, and unique expressions.  He would not hesitate to speak his mind.  John lived his life his way. He was selfless, inspiring, and one of a kind. Gone, but NEVER forgotten.
