Obituary of Peter Wesley Oliver

On March 30th Peter Oliver passed away after a brief illness, with his wife of 60+ years by his side. Pete, as he was affectionately known to many, was a proud man and lived his life on his own terms. Pete was born in Knox on December 20, 1938 to Peter and Ora Oliver, being the youngest of 3 siblings, all residing in Knox.
After school, Pete joined the US Marine Corps, then held a number of jobs including the Albany County Highway Department and the NYS Thruway Authority, from which he retired in 1986. Pete was also an active member of the Knox Plank Roaders. Pete moved to Altamont in 1980 with his wife and two sons, to create a successful working farm they lovingly named Spring Meadow Farm. Many years were spent boarding horses and making HAY, and lots of it, employing many local friends and family to work alongside him.
Pete actively met at the Altamont Legion for Tuesday night dinners and card playing. One of Pete’s favorite things to do was go for rides, visiting everyone, and of course, eating ice cream. He loved popping in on all of his grandkids, and they loved seeing their PaPa. He had a smile and a comment for everyone. Pete will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Georgiana (lovingly known as Mickey), two sons, Steve (Leah), and Paul (Theresa), his grandkids, who were his pride and joy: Heather, Meghan, Katelin, Lucas, Hannah, Dave, Preston (and their spouses), 16 great grandkids, many nieces and nephews and his sister Helen Quay. 
Pete was predeceased by his father and mother, Pete and Ora, as well as his brother Walter (John) Oliver.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 2, 2021 from 5-8PM at Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, Altamont. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 3 at 11Am at the Knox Cemetery.
