Obituary – Marjorie G. Kotmel

Marjorie G. Kotmel, 73, died peacefully on February 27, 2021after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.  She was born on September 24, 1947 in Endicott, NY, daughter of the late Sidney E. and Lois Gent.

Marjorie graduated from Newark Valley Central High School in 1965 and went on to become the first person in her family to attend college.  She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English Education from SUNY Albany in 1969.

While at SUNY Albany, she met her husband of 49 years, the late Allan V. Kotmel.  They were married in November of 1969 and went on to have two children, Allan V. Kotmel, Jr., and the late David Kotmel.

Marjorie supported her children in every way possible.  She worked tirelessly for the Guilderland PTA from 1979-1995, which earned her a Guilderland PTA Lifetime Membership.  In her later years, she doted on her grandchildren every chance she got.

Marjorie also loved to travel with her husband and they had many opportunities to do so. 

Marjorie is survived by her son Allan V. Kotmel, Jr. of Leesburg, VA, her grandchildren Alexander and Melina Kotmel of Leesburg, VA and her brother William (Jill) Gent of Owego, NY.  She was predeceased by her husband, Allan V. Kotmel, Sr., her son, David Kotmel, her brother, Sidney W. Gent, and her parents.

Visiting hours will be held at Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, Altamont NY on Thursday, March 11, 2021 from 12:30 – 1:30 pm.  The funeral service will be at FredendallFuneral Home on March 11, 2021 at 1:30 pm.  Interment will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marjorie’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
