To the family of Jim Keough -
I'm so sorry to read of his passing. I had the pleasure of working with Jim as a PT w/Visiting Nurse Services awhile back. He was such a lovely man, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with him. He spoke lovingly of his family. My sincerest condolences to you all.
Kindest regards,

There are countless stories about this great State Trooper. In my opinion one of the finest police officers I ever knew. I learned so much from him over the years. My favorite moment was when we were working a road check in the middle of the night at exit 25 at 2 am. My partner and I were watching cars entering the thruway, and Jim was watching cars coming off the thruway. He stopped a convertible with 4 males in it. I asked if he needed help and he said "no, I am all set" The next thing I knew I heard him on the radio "Loudonville, 1G-42, four in custody start me a tow". We went over to assist as he was handcuffing them. I asked "what's up" and he said "this one has a revoked license, this one is wanted by Troy, and these two in the back have an eightball of coke". Being a inexperienced officer I asked him "how did you know?" He replied "they had a pink toll ticket." . . . . . . . . Huh?, I said "I don't understand" and he replied "That's from Harriman, nobody drives from Harriman in the middle of the night with the top down". He had found the coke in the folds of the soft-top as he walked up the the car. Incredible man, over the years I have known him he has been an inspiration, a hero in my eyes, and one of the best troopers I ever knew. I have had the opportunity to take care of him during his multiple hospital visits at Albany Med in my retirement career as a nurse. I always made sure he was treated with the utmost respect by the staff. We will miss you Jim.

I was a little boy when I first saw my uncle in his uniform. He was just such a hero to me, John Wayne had nothing on him! My life path and career choice was to follow in his footsteps, and I have. He is the reason I do what I do and has had such a great influence on others like me!

I have known Jim probably since 1976. He affectionately referred to me as “Defendo.” Everyone had a nickname from this kindhearted, funny man. He was there for me when my 7 year old didn’t get off her bus after school which resulted in an immediate search for her. Fortunately she had just decided to take the bus to the middle school to return with her sister. I of course was petrified but Jim’s presence was reassuring while waiting for her return.
Another memorable occasion was when I found a chipmunk just standing there shaking in my family room. There was a lot of rabid animals in the area so I was very concerned. I called Keough who fortunately was working and he said he would be right over. He finally arrived about a half hour later and when I asked him what took so long he said he had to go back to the station to get more bullets! Always a jokester!
I loved hearing his stories which he never ran out of.
My sincere condolences to all of his loving family. He was one of a kind who had the biggest heart.

Jim, you will be missed, never forgotten. I looked forward to riding shotgun on A lines with you. I knew we would be busy; it was always an adventure, my memories are vivid; Baretta leaping out of the Queen at Politos, the Carpenter Village arrest, the would-be burglar in the pouring rain, "Where you coming from?" 'Back there.' "Where you going to?" 'Over there.' We had a good laugh at those two events when all was said and done, and at many others. I will certainly miss your sense of humor, you found something to laugh about no matter how serious the situation may have been. And I remember well how spellbound my children always were when Santa Claus came to visit. Rest in peace, Jim. To the Keough family, I am very sorry for your loss, please accept my sincere condolences.
